How to avoid roaming charges from your home carrier

A travel eSIM saves money only if your home line stays out of the way. Your home carrier can still charge you for data, and sometimes for calls it receives, while you are abroad.

Data roaming off on your home line

iPhone: Settings › Cellular › your home line › Data Roaming off. Android: Settings › Network & internet › SIMs › your home line › Roaming off. With this off, your home line cannot use data abroad at all.

The travel line for data

Choose the QuikRoam line as the phone's data line, with data roaming on for it. Your home line can stay switched on for calls and texts.

Calls and texts

Receiving calls and texts on your home line abroad may still cost something, depending on your carrier. QuikRoam plans are data only: calls over WhatsApp, FaceTime or similar apps use the eSIM's data instead.
