Why websites think you are in another country
With a travel eSIM your phone uses a local network, but your traffic often joins the internet somewhere else, such as Hong Kong, Singapore or a European hub. That is normal, and it explains a few surprises.
What you may notice
Search results and adverts in another language, a streaming catalogue from another country, or a bank or payment app asking for an extra check because the location looks unusual.
What does not change
Your speed depends on the local network you are connected to. Your connection is as private as on any mobile network. It is not a VPN and it is not less safe.
How to know before you buy
Each QuikRoam plan card says where its internet connection exits, when the network tells us. If an app must see you in the country you are visiting, pick a plan that exits there.
If an app refuses to work
Use Wi-Fi for that one task, or approve the extra check from your bank. Tell your bank you are travelling before you leave, as you would with a card.
